Save the Ales is a global Earth Hour initiative by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). This animated project uses infographics and humor to raise awareness about climate change from an unexpected perspective—beer. As climate change affects ingredients like hops and barley, it threatens the taste and quality of this popular beverage, making the issue more relatable and engaging.

The project was created as individual work in the course ‚Typography for Screen and Motion‘ at Swinburne University in 2015.

Design Process

The design process began with in-depth research, shaping the foundation for the first script draft. From there, rough scribbles evolved into a storyboard, mapping out key scenes and visual flow. Style frames helped refine the illustration style, ensuring a cohesive look and feel. Next, an animatic was developed using the storyboard and an early self-recorded voice-over, allowing for timing adjustments and narrative refinement. Once finalized, a professional voice-over artist from Fiverr brought the script to life. The animation was then crafted in After Effects, bringing together visuals, motion, and sound for the final piece.
